The Samuel Bryant House

One of the jewels of the South Shore is the abundance of antique homes that have survived centuries and, with the right care, will survive centuries more.  Here is a home that was already 75 years old at our country's founding.  Unfortunately, it had fallen into extreme disrepair and would likely not survive another winter of snowpack on the completely rotted second floor framing.  Working closely with the Norwell Historic Commission during the design phase, with the utmost care and respect for antique detail, we salvaged as much as we possibly could from the original building, retaining the entire first floor post and beam structure and three extraordinarily beautiful fireplaces while adding a full height second floor in a classic colonial design.

We meticulously replaced the rotted sill and most of the rotted first story floor system and added new, engineer-specified carrying beams for the second floor, ensuring a rock solid frame that will still be standing long after we're gone.  We added period appropriate trim details, including custom made exterior window sills and three early American design fireplace surrounds.  The massive kitchen fireplace and beehive oven deserved a special touch, so we built a solid walnut mantle to highlight this classic feature.

Rounding the house out with custom kitchen cabinets, custom bathroom vanities, and a brand new landscape install, we spared no detail in doing justice to the original Samuel Bryant House.
